Job Summary:
Biigtigong Nishnaabeg requires a full-time elementary Ojibway language teacher beginning immediately. The Ojibway Language teacher will deliver language and culture programming to students from K-8. The successful candidate will utilize community approved resources to foster the acquisition of the Ojibway language among students. The overall guidance and direction for this position will fall under the principal.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications;
➢ Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
➢ BA or BSC degree and BED degree with specialization in the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Level
➢ Ability to speak Ojibway (will consider developing speakers with Language AQ courses)
➢ Experience teaching First Nations students
➢ Current vulnerable sector check
The list qualifications will be used to develop a screening tool. It is the responsibility of the candidate to communicate his/her expertise and experience in identified areas
Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:
➢ Planning, preparing & delivering lessons to all students assigned
➢ Teach according to the various educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the individual students in the classroom
➢ Assess and evaluate the academic progress of the assigned students
➢ Record and report the development of progress of student’s achievement (principal, teachers and other stakeholders)
➢ Work towards the overall school improvement plan
➢ Maintain good order and discipline of students assigned
➢ Participate in staff, group and other team meetings
➢ Nurture a culture where teachers view themselves as facilitators of learning and reflective practitioner
➢ Encourage local community culture, language and traditions across the curriculum and school
➢ Other duties as assigned
