Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Finance Clerk is responsible for all areas related to financial reporting. The position is responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reports. The Finance Clerk will assist the Director of Finance and Administration in ensuring that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and finance activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Summary of Duties:

  • Assist in the maintenance of all accounting functions of the First Nation and its corporate entities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, month & year end procedures, budget preparation and analysis, contract review and maintenance, reporting, administer payroll when necessary, etc.
  • Identify, develop and implement work practices to reduce operation inefficiencies and improve systems.
  • Provide administrative support in order to ensure effective and efficient office operations.
  • Attend meetings, training and sit on committees as required
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nation is considered an asset

Requirements:

  • Post Secondary Diploma – accounting and/or business related course
  • 2-3 years’ experience working with computerized accounting software.
  • Experience with budgeting, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office would be an asset.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
