Overview:
The Junior Environmental Technicians will provide technical support to the Sustainable Development Department in the Environmental section. This position will require the successful candidates to assist the environment technicians to conduct and participate in field monitoring and investigations on the impacts of activities on the environment within Biigtigong Nishnaabeg’s traditional territory including the fieldwork and site visits with the department and external partners. The Junior Environmental Technicians will be located at the Sustainable Development office and will report to the Environmental Manager.

Summary of Duties/Requirements:

  • Participating in technical fieldwork, field site visits and assisting the lead field technicians in the collection of environmental data;
  • Fisheries and water sampling with the lead field monitoring consultants and technicians;
  • Processing samples and record results;
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather;
  • Participate in required training and educational programs;
  • Experience in operating an ATV/UTV, understanding of boat safety and working safely in and around water;
  • Regular maintenance and inventory of field equipment;
  • Any other duties as required to fulfill the mandate of the environmental section.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid Pleasure Craft, SDV-BS, SVOP, First Aid, WHMIS, UTV/ATV and chainsaw certification;
  • Certification in ArcGIS considered an asset;
  • Must have at least 1 year fieldwork experience for both sample collection and monitoring programs;
  • Experience in data recording, processing and analyzing of samples;
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments;
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting 30lbs;
  • Understanding of field safety protocols and ability to operate all required field equipment;
  • Flexible to work early hours, evenings or weekends, when required;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license;
