Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Ontario Works Administrator is responsible to administer the Ontario Works Programs to members of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg. Social assistance is managed in accordance with the existing Provincial Legislation and supporting First Nation policy and procedures.
Preferable skills & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications. This list will be used to develop a screening tool. It is the responsibility of the candidate to communicate his/her expertise and experience in these areas:
- Social Services university degree or college diploma.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience with social services programs.
- Working experience with management of finances, including budgeting, proposal writing, reporting, and demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting.
- Working understanding of applicable Ontario Works regulations and policies.
- Strong understanding of and skills in using a variety of hardware, software and information technologies, including Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and accounting software.
- Working experience in a team setting; ability to work collectively in the delivery of services and programs.
- Experience in policy development, evaluation and administration.
- Understanding of socio-economic determinants of health and demonstrated application within a work setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg culture and history.
- Good conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Ability to complete work in a timely fashion, to multitask, to work within tight deadlines and to persevere in adverse circumstances.

Strategy Development: As part of a larger team and a collective vision, the Ontario Works Administrator is responsible for strategy development and the continued commitment to improved services for clients.
Program Administration: Provides employment assistance and temporary financial assistance leading to sustainable employment and financial independence to those eligible under the Ontario Works program by implementing the specific duties as listed in the job description.
Training and Employment: Works collectively to develop and deliver initiatives to support Biigtigong’s Employment and Training strategies.
Reporting and Accounting: Provides the necessary work to ensure high levels of accountability and transparency.
Other Related Duties & Restructuring: The First Nation reserves the right to re-design the job and program requirements in order to better serve the needs of the membership, this position is subject to on-going development and possible restructuring based on need.
