The recent video posted on social media does not reflect the values or beliefs of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg. Chief and Council do not stand in the way of authorities upholding and enforcing laws against any illegal action of our members. Specific to this incident, it is a criminal code matter, and as such, it has been reported to the police for their investigation and follow up. It is in the hands of the police.
In addition, if someone has concerns about the welfare of any animal, please call the police as it is a criminal offence. See Sections 444 to 447 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
We would also like to remind everyone of our rescue of a starving bear cub this fall to point out Biigtigong’s commitment to animal welfare.
