Barrick Gold Corporation is looking for an Indigenous Engagement Specialist to join its motivated and high performing Sustainability team. This position will lead implementation of the Canadian Indigenous Engagement Strategy in a manner that aligns with Barrick’s overall business strategy and goals. The successful candidate brings a strong background in community engagement and a track record of building and maintaining positive, trusting relationships with local communities and Indigenous partners in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads execution of the Canadian Indigenous Engagement Strategy
  • Develops and maintains stakeholder engagement plans for mine exploration and operations across Canada
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders through frequent and regular collaboration
  • Facilitates and leads, in collaboration with the Sustainability team, negotiations, discussions, presentations, and meetings with Indigenous communities
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for Indigenous matters related to Barrick’s business in Canada
  • Maintains documentation related to engagement activities, including meeting minutes, action trackers, and commitment registries
  • Understands and articulates Barrick’s ESG commitments


  • Post-secondary qualifications in humanities, geography, social sciences, communications, or related field of study – suitable experience would also be considered
  • A minimum of 5 years of community engagement experience, preferably in the mining industry or other industry within the resources sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous groups and context in Canada – experience in northwestern Ontario is an asset
  • Experience with consultation and engagement activities, preferably in the context of developing and permitting natural resource projects

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly within Canada
