Our expanding Dbenjgan company is seeking to hire a Contract Supervisor to join our team. The employee will oversee supervising our labour contract agreement between Biigtigong Dbenjgan and Barminco.  The employee will work under the direction of Biigtigong Dbenjgan’s Operations Manager in ensuring the company and the First Nations adhere to said contract and help promote a company culture that encourages morale and performance.

Summary of Duties:

Orientations: Complete orientation program within the work area i.e. Pit, Mine, Mill, etc. where new Contract Personnel will be working and ensure that all Contract Personnel work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures, and procedures. 

Employee Time/Leave/Training Management: Communicate with all Contract Personnel and their supervisors for the completion of timesheets and the collection of them. Manage and communicate Contract Personnel leave requests. Ensure that all training records are up to date, submitted and filed properly

Employee Concerns: Maintain regular communications with Contract Personnel and if concerns are raised follow up with the appropriate representatives.

Human Resources: Optimally manage Human Resources with reference to safety, competence, performance, absenteeism, grievances, quality, overtime, training, and development.

Information / Safety Meetings: Ensuring that quarterly information and safety meetings are scheduled, take minutes, keeping the action plan record accurate and complete and undertaking any necessary follow-up.

Investigations: Participate in interviews and investigations and report accordingly. Recommending specific action plans to address immediate issues and mitigate potential concerns. Ensuring that all agreement issues are being adhered to and that action plans to address any issues that may arise are in place.

Training & Developing: Identifying potential individuals from the current Contract Personnel for training and development opportunities. Perform job observations weekly on a Contract Employee.  Assist in the developing of a database of the skills, education, and employment experience of the members of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg.

Communication: Effectively communicate with all Contract Personnel and Barminco employees. Collaborate with the Contract Personnel and Barminco representatives to ensure full familiarity with all issues, opportunities and responsibilities related to Contract Personnel. Encouraging and promoting good relations and liaising with the First Nation community, Contract Personnel, Biigtigong Dbenjgan and Barminco representatives. Submitting month end reports on training and development undertaken by Barminco for the Contract Personnel.

Undertaking other duties that may arise in the context of the participation programs that are agreed to with the Barminco representatives.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience (min 2 years)
  • Liaison experience
  • Knowledge of mining
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to act as a role model to the community
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Teamwork and proven leadership qualities
