Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Leadership Election

We have been receiving increased inquiries regarding our upcoming elections. The following information is provided to assist in addressing those questions and to clarify timelines related to election activity.

Biigtigong Nishnaabeg has contracted Audrey Gilbeau as the Electoral Officer. Our election is under the First Nation Election Act (FNEA). The FNEA, identifies activities and timelines that need to be followed.

Member information

  • Biigtigong Nishnaabeg is requesting off-reserve member’s addresses be provided to the Band Office. If you have moved since the last election which took place in 2021, please contact the Band Office to update your mailing information.
  • The Electoral Officer will be provided with off-reserve members addresses starting Thursday August 21, 2025.
  • Your addresses will be utilized to send information relating to the upcoming election.
  • Members can provide your updated information directly to our membership clerk via email kim.starr@picriver.com or via telephone 807-229-1749

Nominations

  • The Notice of Nomination Meeting will be posted by Tuesday August 26, 2025.
  • The Nomination Meeting date is Saturday, September 20th, 2025 at the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Community Hall.
  • All Members whose known addresses who reside off-reserve will be mailed a Nomination Mail-Out Package.
  • The Election Date is Saturday October 25, 2025, to elect one (1) Chief and twelve (12) Councillors.
  • The current leadership has determined that two Advance Polls will be held in:
    • Thunder Bay – Monday October 20, 2025 – Marriott TownePlace Suites located at 550 Harbour
      Expressway
    • Biigtigong Nishnaabeg – Wednesday October 22, 2025 – Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Community Centre
