ADDICTION SERVICES PROGRAMS

ADDICTION SERVICES

The 1997 Health Transfer created more autonomy for Pic River to build and customize what health services are required for the community. With the Health Transfer, came the reinstatement of Addictions services under the NNADAP title.

The responsibilities of the Addictions Worker are:

Under the supervision of the Health Director, the Addictions Worker directs a community program which is intended to minimize alcohol & drug abuse within the community. The Addictions Worker is a “front-line” contact, responsible for counseling clients in the community setting, encompassing all aspects of prevention, treatment, referral, after-care and administration involved in Addictions services.

ADDICTION WORKER

Addictions Worker - Jennifer Cooke

Jennifer Cooke graduated from Confederation College in 1993 with a Social Service Worker Diploma. In 2003, Jennifer completed high school, graduating from the Pic River Private High School. Currently, Jennifer is completing university courses in hopes of graduating someday with an Honours Bachelors of Social Work.

Aside from education, Jennifer’s work experience in addictions began in the 80’s, providing administrative duties to Delores Courchene, the NNADAP worker at that time and eventually covered Delores’s maternity leave. Jennifer then returned to school to complete her college education. Jennifer returned to Pic River in 1994 and began working as a Family Support Worker up until 1997 when she assumed the NNADAP worker position. In 2005, Jennifer left Pic River and accepted a Residential Counsellor position with Dilico Adult Residential Treatment Centre fulfilling her lifelong dream of working in a treatment centre.

Jennifer happily accepted the Addictions Worker position with Pic River in December 2008 in hopes of returning with new knowledge and skills to help enhance the lives of Pic River Community members.
