In March 2010, Pic River First Nation launched the start of a pilot recycling project within the First Nation. Through the funding assistance of Lands Environmental Action Fund (LEAF), Pic River was able to secure monies to provide roadside pick up of recyclable materials, therefore, increasing access to recycling initiative for our membership.
Currently, in our 7th year of recycling, we have seen increases in waste diversion as more households continue to utilize this program. According to a study done in 2012, it extended the life of the landfill site by 3 years allowing for the community to work on their waste management program.
Chi-miigwetch to the households, departments, and business within Biigtigong for your continued stewardship contribution towards the environment!
Go green for the next generations!
