AANDC Provides Funding for New Education Complex

November 4, 2015

Garland Moses, Pic River Capital/Housing Manager, is excited to announce that Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) has agreed to fund $11.2 million for the new education complex. This brings the community half way to the total funding necessary to strengthen the future of Pic River education. The funding will provide the new east wing of Biigtigong Endzhi-gkinoohmaading, which will house the daycare and elementary school.

“It’s just the beginning of a better education for Anishanbek children” says Lisa Michano-Courchene.

The community would like to thank AANDC for seeing the vision and opportunity Biigtigong Endhi-gkinoohmaading will provide. The support from AANDC is greatly appreciated, and opens the door for new funding opportunities such as other government agencies, private sector partnerships, and other unique fundraising approaches being considered by the community.

Lisa Michano adds: “The future of Biigtigong Nishnnabeg is already becoming brighter.”
